WHAT ARE?

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are a group of active chemical compounds found in marijuana that interact with specific cannabinoid receptors present in the central nervous system leading to altered moods, pain relief and other medical benefits. The cannabis plant has at least 111 cannabinoids with THC or tetrahydrocannabinol being described as the most common cannabinoid known for its psychoactive properties.

Examples: CBD-A, CBD, CBN, CBG. CBC

CBD-A

Short for cannabidiolic-acid; an acidic cannabinoid, the naturally occurring raw form of CBD that is produced directly in the plant.

CBD

Short for cannabidiol; a phytocannabinoid found in the cannabis; does not result in euphoria and has shown to have strong health benefits on human and animal health

CBN

Short for cannabinol; a phytocannabinoid found in cannabis; it is produced when THC is metabolized and has little to no intoxicating effects.

CBG

Short for cannabigerol; known as the “parent cannabinoid” and is the chemical precursor to THC and CBD

CBC

Short for cannabichromene; a phytocannabinoid found in cannabis that has little to no intoxicating effects

Endocannabinoid

Naturally occurring cannabinoids in the human body.

Phytocannabinoid

Plant-based cannabinoids found in species of cannabis.

THC

Short for tetrahydrocannabinol; a phytocannabinoid found in cannabis shown to have some benefits on human and animal health, however, is responsible for intoxicating effects associated with marijuana use

Terpenes

The fragrant oils that give cannabis its aromatic diversity. ... These oils are secreted in the flower's sticky resin glands, the same ones that produce THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids. Terpenes are by no means unique to cannabis; they can be found in many other herbs, fruits, and plants as well.

Trichome

Trichomes are translucent resin glands protruding from buds and leaves of the cannabis plant. They contain a high concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes responsible for the many medical benefits of the cannabis plant. When looked under a microscope, they appear like mushroom protrusions lying on the surface of the buds, leaves and stalk with each part giving certain value to the plant. It is believed that the trichomes serve as a plant’s defense mechanism, protecting it from threats and natural predators in the environment.

Endocannabinoid System

Found in all Mammals.   Refers to endocannabinoids, the enzymes that regulate their production and degradation, and their receptors (CB1 and CB2).  These receptors are everywhere in our bodies and purpose of this system is to facilitate Homeostasis for whole body.  Total Balance.

CB1 & CB2

Cannabinoid receptors found primarily in the central and peripheral nervous systems (nerves inside and outside of the brain and spinal cord).

WHAT IS?

Homeostasis

Balance.  Self-regulating process of ANY system in the body; your body automatically finding balance.  Systems out of balance manifest as chronic pain, skin disorders, weight management, anxiety  and more.  Homeostasis means (restored) Balance – which in turn means healing

Cannabis

It is a generic term used to refer to a plant genus producing different species of flowering herbs that include Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis. Sativa and Indica are the most preferred species due to their recreational and medicinal benefits. Cannabis Ruderalis is not as popular as the other species due to its lower THC levels and small stature.

Marijuana

Marijuana is the general term for female cannabis plants or their dried flowers. Females are distinct from male plants in that they are the ones that produce flowers which contain the high percentage of cannabinoids that hold both their medicinal and psychoactive properties.

Hemp

This refers to a Sativa L. plant that is typically cultivated for its many uses such as oils and Topical ointments, as well as fiber for clothing, paper, rope, building materials, animal bedding and more.  Applications do not involve intoxication.

As hemp is naturally a high-growing plant, it is usually grown outdoors to maximize its size and yield. The focus is not on producing Buds and Flowers,  but on building the length of stalk for fiber production. It has very low levels of THC but much higher CBD concentrations.  Hemp is legal for use and processing across all 50 states and more than 65 countries globally.    Hemp farming is on the path to be legal federally in the USA by end of 2018.

Cannabis Sativa L.

A species of plant in the Cannabis Sativa genus; refers to both Hemp and Marijuana, which are both sub species however different plants entirely
